10:00 a.m. To 2:00 p.m

at the

Utah Cultural Celebration Center

1355 West 3100 South • West Valley City, UT

WE HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY PLANNED FOR OUR OCTOBER UCA MEETING.

Two of our most notable UCA Members, Faye Maxfield and Mary Wells, will help us learn fun and exciting new skills! Later in the day we can claim the orders we placed at the Try & Buy at our September meeting.

FAYE MAXFIELD will teach "Playing with Letters" Faye will show us how to bigin with an alphabet we know well, and tease it in various ways so that it takes on a different appearance.  Faye will use her wit and wisdom to show you things you never imagined on your own.

There are no tools or supplies to bring.  Just bring yourselves and be prepared to learn.  You may want to take notes and then you won't have to try to remember everything Faye says.  However, knowing Faye, she just might give you a little something to help you recall her instructions.   This will be a really fun and fruitful morning!

MARY WELLS is a long-time member of Utah Calligraphic Artists.  She is incredibly talented, and full of ideas.  The wonderful thing about Mary is, she takes time to put her ideas down on strips of paper and create her famous accordion books.  Looking through each book gives one a glimpse into Mary's unconventional and fertile mind.

We are so fortunate to have Mary with us this October UCA Meeting.  She is a retired school teacher by occupation, and she is always gracious and willing to share her know-how with others, and she really knows her ABCs!

MARY'S AMAZING ACCORDION BOOK ––––––––––––––––––––
Mary will bring all the paper cut to size for everyone.
Please Bring:
  • Pencil and eraser
  • Ruler
  • Bone folder
  • Scissors
  • PVA or glue stick
  • Tape (any)
  • Light box if you have one
The plan is to make an accordion fold alphabet book. To begin, we will fold four strips of paper into 8 panels each. We will cut one strip in half. Next, using the template, that I will give each person, we will emboss a square on each of the 28 panels
Once the embossing is complete, we will attach the strips together making one long strip of 28 panels. Finally, we will cover 2 cover boards with decorative paper and attach them to the front and back of the strip.

Above are two of the many accordion books created by Mary Wells!

THERE WILL BE NO HANDOUTS FOR THIS MEETING.  NOTHING FOR YOU TO PRINT AND BRING!

REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR HOMEWORK FROM SEPTEMBER!  PRIZES!
